5 But the angel said to the women, “Stop being afraid! For I know you're looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here. He has been raised, just as he said. When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices to go and anoint Jesus. ^{▼▼Lit. him}Matt 28:1; Luke 23:56; 24:1; John 20:1 2 Very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had just come up, they were going to the tomb.Luke 24:1; John 20:1 3 They kept saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?” 4 Then they looked up and saw that the stone had been rolled away. (For it was a very large stone.)

5 As they went into the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were utterly astonished.Luke 24:3; John 20:11-12 6 But he said to them, “Stop being astonished! You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised. He is not here. 8 So they left the tomb and ran away, for shock and astonishment had overwhelmed them. They didn't say a thing to anyone, because they were afraid. ^{▼▼Some mss. end Mark here; others include verses 9-20. John 20:1-10

She told them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don't know where they have put him!”John 13:23; 19:26 3 So Peter and the other disciple set out to go to the tomb.Luke 24:12 4 The two of them were running together, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter and came to the tomb first. 5 Bending over to look inside, he noticed the linen cloths lying there but didn't go in.John 19:40 6 At this point Simon Peter arrived, following him, and went straight into the tomb.
